Not true, use a Channelloc Pump Plier, adjustable to fit each size. Or Neilsen Hose Clamp Pliers from Cannon Tools Ltd.

Used both without problems when doing the rad hoses on a full thermostat change on my KV6

Sometimes those clips have been fitted, maybe with the engine out, or at such awkward angles that it's impossible to fit the pliers on them.---

Makes it a bit difficult to substitute a "Jubilee" clip then?

Yes it could be difficult however they can be opened out in order to be threaded round a pipe and put in such a position that a screwdriver or socket can be used to tighten them.

I have, in the past, actually ground down a pair of long nosed pliers to close those other types of clips from the side where straight on access is not possible.---
