Be aware if you come to France ALL number plates have, by law, to be riveted on.----

Oui monsieur.

Had new plates fitted a few months ago because of a number change.

ALSO---you are not allowed to rivet the plates in position yourself. It HAS to be done by an authorised garage.---

Non compliance means a 135 euros fine.---

If you don't have the cash on you, you will be escorted to the nearest cash point by a gun toting Gendarme.

If that can't be done you will be relieved of your driving license which will only be returned to you after you have paid the fine.

Could be because you are in another persons country and you have to comply with their laws to be there. I don't think you can go about making up your own laws just to suit yourself.

Otherwise why bother with beam deflectors.,yellow vests, breakdown triangles, breathalysers etc ???-----

If you are caught using a RADAR beam detector you will parted from your car on the spot and your car possibly crushed.-------- The bus stop is over there Sir.

It would be useful if we all confirmed to a EU standard. For example motorcycle helmets require fluorescent strips to be placed at certain positions around the helmet again in France. What a pain!

When I lived in France and registered a vehicle there, I had number plates made up and I riveted them on myself, it passed a number of CTs.

Years ago my daughter and then boyfriend came with us to France. They took their own vehicle which he drove. He was only 17 and had recently passed his uk driving test. I seem to recall in France you then had to be 18. Was that illegal, the RAC at the time advised me he would be legal.

There are other discrepancies you can fall foul on.

Each year there are more regulations. The number plate rivets is new. DIY now not legal.--
