HI Mick.
I usually like to pry them out smoothly but as you know all of them do not play the game so have to resort to slide hammer as never let me down no plus gas on this one as I knew I would have to use my make shift hoover nozzle as below to clear all the crud/carbon build up in & around the injector.

Injector looked like tis once removed.
1

2

Injector port
3

After cleaning around & the port out.
4

my made up hoover nozzle
5

6

The blue rod stops the crud falling into the port hole of the injector tip, and of cause the copper washer was left behind when I got the injector out, that was another task to remove that

HI Mick.
Around the 145,000 mark so I m told, when I finally got the washer out it was really thin and looked like a letter C which at the time I thought had someone fitted this injector did not have a new copper washer so cut a section out of the old one hoping they could squeeze it together thinking it would hold better on the tip or as it just been damaged like that through wear & tear?

Don’t think anyone has cut it, as rarely I see the washers “thin out” so to speak, mainly due to useage, when I saw the injector I thought it looked like a injector that had done 130k + and if you think ours can be hard to remove, try removing one from a 200k Peugeot lol

Arctic,
I suspect that the copper washer had been leaking for a while.
What I think has happened is, as the washer leaks you get some "blow by" of combustion gasses, which erodes the washer, which in turn allows more "blow by", which further erodes the washer......
It is this blow by which deposits the carbon around the injector making it interesting to remove.
The trouble is, this can cause burning to the head as well - hence why I dressed the injector seats on mine.
Glad to see you go the problem one out
Regards
Chris

The injectors aren't part of the official service schedule on these engines though John.

So we can assume they were designed to last the lifetime of the car. Of course miss fuelling will knock years off the service life, but running on cheaper fuels doesn't appear to affect them.

Later injectors had an O ring to help prevent corrosion and make it is easier to get them out.

Hi Chris
Yes your absolutely right there mate, the carbon residues are result of the process called carbonization /coking.
I often see it on vehicles that have common rail diesel.
