I got one of the "genuine even though it has an M on the rubber its the harder diesel compound, honest" mounts.
No question it seems way softer than the original, but I guess that could be down to the 14yr old one losing pliability, but even so, not impressed to be fair. This is what happens when you are down to the last crumbs on old sheds like these in terms of parts supply. Eventually X-Part will stop altogether Id imagine, so its a case of beggars cant be choosers. Still, on the bright side it was made in the EU, so I was happy with that. |

Rubber compounds harden with age, if anything it will suffer stress cracking due to the plasticisers age. it will be interesting to see how these mounts hold up over the next 12 months or so.

I'll be the first to report if its rubbish!
I had no choice really, my factory original was "ok" at a glance, but on closer inspection had two huge cracks in each lobe of the rubber, it was only a matter of time before the thing fell apart. I must be honest, with the possibly softer rubber, the vibrations off the diesel are reduced. FYI, Nick at ECP SWORE that these are remanufactured by the original company, but they threw away the old mould with the 'T' on it, so use the same mould with the 'M' on, but a different rubber compound for the diesel. If this is legitimate, I am happy enough, but really at this stage, there is not much choice. CHRIST knows what it must be like to run a Lotus Carlton, or even an MG SV, you'd probably have to commission your own parts. As much as I love cars, unless I was restoring them as a business, I just don't have the time in life to chase/source factory original stuff squirrelled away any more. It used to be fun and a buzz, but now I just want to get in a nice new car and drive, and not even think about a list of jobs that need to be done. |

I had a 17k mile Rover Coupe Turbo 'FDH' , which was literally almost factory mint aside from some brand new OZ Superlegeras, 335mm front brakes, MG ZS rears electroplated in OE gold, and Gaz Gold fully adjustable suspension. I even had a pair of BRAND NEW BOXED AP Roversport front calipers which I sold to Jason in Australia. Sigh, regrets all round.
I sold it for SILLY money, and regret it to this day and would dearly love to buy it back. The Coupe Turbo was brilliant for a nice Sunday morning drive, I loved it to bits. The performance stats for the Coupe Turbo were silly for the early 1990's, and I remember booting it one day and leaving an expensive Cosworth Escort looking silly. Of course being 4x4 it was suffering major transmission losses, but still, for a rubbish old Rover the Coupe Turbo really was a masterpiece in a straight line. Less said about the standard brakes and standard cornering the better though... Suffice to say mine was on rails once I had the camber dialled in how I liked it, although front tyre longevity was erm.... 'poor' Last edited by T16; 2nd August 2019 at 22:46.. |

Lower Engine Mounts.
I am hoping to remove and inspect the Chinese mount on my diesel tourer tomorrow which was fitted back in 2018, if I do get the chance then I will report back if it still as it was when I fitted it.

Hi Jon Dee. I am afraid I have not yet removed it to check since it was fitted back in November 2018. I have a power flex one waiting to go on once I get the chance over the next few days when the weather gives us a break.

After I installed my yellow poly mount I was surprised that it could be seen from above. The old black one just blended in to the blackness.
After all the talk of the bushings popping out it's nice to be able to do a visual check.

Came off very easily.---Then things went down hill. It was in perfect condition with no signs of damage or deterioration at all.---In fact it looked a better job than the new pattern part.--- So------I put it back on. I used a 3 foot long steel bar on all the suspension parts to see if I could find any wear in pivots or ball joints; Nothing.- Will continue the search tomorrow. |
