Yes Sheila. From RAVE:
1. Loosen compressor drive belt tensioner pivot and clamp bolts. 2. Apply an anti-clockwise torque to tensioner plate hexagon of 38 Nm for a used belt or 47 Nm for a new belt and tighten tensioner clamp bolt to 24 Nm. 3. Tighten tensioner pivot bolt to 24 Nm. 4. Fit road wheel and tighten bolts to 125 Nm. I do believe that you're the first to ask that question! Simon

It's Simon Sheila. RAVE is the name given to the official MG Rover workshop manual.

That's ok. If none of the diesel-owning members can help, I can tell you what the manual says.

No need to remove it Sheila - it is an automatic tensioner so you will need to get a 24mm spanner on it and take the tension off by pulling the spanner towards the front of the car from underneath. An aircraft spanner is ideal for this job - you might have to grind the face down a bit to get a good purchase on the tensioner as the bolt head isn't very deep. Here is a sketch of the belt run: .
