Just renewed my Insurance, changed the "Facts" because my wife has died, the premium was then put UP £60.

There is possibly a premium discount for two or more named drivers, a lot of insurers do this. If you have reverted to one driver only, the premium will rise accordingly but still well worth contacting the insurance company for a full explanation.

If it's not your only car you could get classic car insurance instead. Like many others on here I'm with Pete Best and get an owners club discount as well.

You should have informed them that you had very recently converted to Islam and now had 4 wives....God (sorry Allah) only knows what the hike would have been then...although you might have been able to claim racial or religious discrimination as many 'enrichers' do I'm told' ?

Thanks everyone, I did query it with them, its seems they think the post event stress affects your driving. It was a single driver policy before.
Yes if I bought a second vehicle as an every day car, I could get a classic policy, but I do not need a second car as I do not drive every day, sometimes only twice in seven days. They assume that because you have a classic car, it has to spend its time in the garage, because most people have a job to go to each day and hence the every day car requirement. However no requirement to use the second car, now that could stand on the drive going nowhere, but at some cost! |

My experiences, including Peter Best, are that the insurers will not cover a Rover 75 on a classic policy until it is 20 yrs + old. However they will cover an MG ZT or T-T. Had this from numerous classic insurers and brokers, in fact all I contacted, including the company that covers my Dolomite. The reasons given, an MG is generally owned by an enthusiast but a 75 is an old banger with drivers looking for cheap insurance, so the 20 year rule is applied. Stupid and unfair for 75 enthusiasts but there we go.
