Default Advice, Major MOT fail

I can deal with the exhaust and the emmissions but the steering rack leak is a pain, I have been quoted £700 for the work all in, any thoughts please

A reconditioned rack costs less than £100. Why not ask one of the forum trader mechanics to replace the current one with new?

Surely the above rack is for a city Rover? not an MGZT or Rover 75 I found this below, and they are not cheap

It may only be the boot on the rack ? are they not more specific ? who gave you the price the MOT station if so take it else where

If the OP needs a rack I could probably sort them out with a decent used one if it helps keep costs down

Biting the bullet, keeping the faith, I have booked it in for a new rack, a bew exhaust and a retest £700 !!! thats old cars for you !!

What can you do !!! 4 good tyres, all 4 springs new, rear suspension mounts done, front bushes replaced, good clutch and no rot, it would be crazy to give up on the old boy now !! plus I really like it, so I am gonna keep the faith !!
