Default Nee clutch !

Good evening everyone in mg rover land.

I have a problem with my rover 75 1.8 conny.
Bought the car jan-feb time, drove it home no probs.
Have since sold my saab, and have started doing the bits on the rover. Starts first time but cant engage the clutch.
December last year it had a new clutch master cylinder fitted by the previous owner . Could this be the problem?.
Any ideas or information.would be greatly apriechiated .

Thanks jeff

My guess is a failed slave cylinder.

I would suggest the first thing is to check the contents/level of fluid in the master cylinder above the pedal with the "condom" removed. If you are certain that it is correctly filled then check the quick release connection in the fluid line, connected and reconnected.

I have met at least three mechanics who thought the brake fluid reservoir in the plenum chamber served the clutch too.

Good luck.

Hi Jef

Once you've tried all the good advice here you may find that you are suffering from what sadly is now all to common with clutches on the 75/ZT. The hydraulic parts supplied now, even from reputable manufacturers, have very inconsistent quality and are known to fail at very low mileages and from what I have been told by the people who do the work, its across all the suppliers and none seem any better than another. My new master from LUK failed at 13 months and 3500 miles, and the slave then failed 10 months later after a further 3000 miles. All fitted by Trikey who knows what to fit, how to do it correctly when he replaced the clutch and DMF. I have no criticism of his work but the quality of those top branded parts, oh yes I do. I am not alone in this happening and it is well covered on posts in this forum. I do hope you are not a victim of this as I know a lot of cars get scrapped because of it.

Big Russ says now its so bad avoid manuals if you must have a 75 or ZT. He has a customer who replaced his clutch three times over five years do to these components failing. Master went first that was replaced, then slave failed so whole clutch had to be replaced. Then it started round again. Car has like mine now gone.
