Default tail lights on all the time

My tail lights are on all the time but the number plate lights are off as are the front side lights. I have to disconnect the battery so as not to flatten the battery. Any thoughts welcome. TIA

is it a diesel? possible electrical issue due to a wet ecu in the plenum, might be worth checking if your plenums are blocked and filled with water. Also check the LSM isn't wet.

Hi Rick, plenum is dry as a bone, and yes, it is a diesel.

Have you tried a battery reset? It can and has cured many odd electrical issues, so worth a go.
Lee.

Hi,I had a slightly different problem, parked up one night and realised my brake lights were still on,then smelt burning plastic in the car, disconnected battery and next day discovered the brake light switch under the brake pedal had shorted and began to melt.Just mentioning this in case it were your brake lights not going off.Regards Ry......

have you got the highline satnav system with the radio and video modules in the boot and also the satnav drive? If so check that the spare wheel well and satnav drive are dry. Had this on a car once where the wet radio and video modules were causing electrical issues, one which was the tail lights staying on when they weren't switched on.

Thanks Lee, I tried a battery reset with no success and have disconnected it again for tonight.
Ryszard, definitely the tail lights but there was a strange smell in the car a few days ago which I put down to the heat we are experiencing at the moment. Definitely worth a check though, thanks.
Rick, standard radio removed and replaced with one of those Chinese DD units. Being a tourer the spare wheel well remains dry.
Thanks everyone.

Check fuse 7 hasn't blown (fuse 13 if it is a Facelift).

That's a simple check so I'll start there in the morning, thanks Mike.
