Default Over sensitivity to drugs

I'm still getting used to the idea of having to take meds, but an impression I'm getting is that my system is very sensitive indeed to many meds.

The latest med they have put me on is alfacalcidol, 1x 0.25 every other day. I was fine for the first couple, then third fourth turned my stomach upside down, within 5 hours of taking them, such that rang the doctor for advice. I was told I needed them and there was no alternative, but to take them on a morning, rather than an evening, so would not be kept up feeling ill. I have kept on with them, noticeably feeling ill on the days I have taken them, but I think my body has gradually acclimatised to them. The leaflet with them mentions nausea as a possible effect.

I had similar issues with doxazosin and with iron tablets too.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

The one I had the biggest problem with is statins. They are sneaky though, you don't get the side effects immediately, think you're fine then weeks after starting them . . . . BANG . . . . muscle pains, stiff joints, particularly in the morning. I'm on my fifth different statin, still get side effects but its the least bad. The problem I have now is I used to combat the aches and pains with a couple of paracetamol in the morning but with my latest issue paracetamol isn't advisable, waiting to hear the specialists opinion.

I'm on Atorvastatin and had no side effects at all but little from any of my other meds too so maybe i don't react like some fortunately.

Funny you should say that.I am on statins and nearly every morning wake with aching shoulders and upper arms. Up to now put it down as age or sleeping position.

Muscle and joint pain is one of the most common statin side effects. It affected me particularly badly in the mornings, one I was on (can't recall which) once the side effects kicked in I woke up in the morning like an arthritic 90 year old, stiff and aching all over, couldn't even stand up straight! I went through four different statins, atorvastatin, fluvastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin before finally settling for pravastatin, seemed to be the least bad one,

The same one as me. No special aches, though I went through several weeks of regular hand and foot cramps building up, long after I began taking them. I was advised to stop taking them by the surgeries pharmacist, see if it cleared up, which it did immediately give it a few days then restart.

It never reoccurred, since restarting, so maybe the rest from them was beneficial?
