Lots of scams about, you just need to be on your toes to suss them out.

I always remind my elderly neighbours that if not sure then either ask me or relatives if it’s a genuine call.

I have already someone try and scam me via PayPal and facebook market place but I saw the scam when I checked up on there Facebook account and found they was India and not Plymouth as they claimed. Reported then to Facebook, PayPal and the Police. Never heard anymore.

I think the awareness these days is advice for all age groups. Do not trust anybody who talks about "your finances", and if it's a verbal contact, tell them to write to you and end the call.

I had a call a few years ago from supposedly TalkTalk. Long story short, I sussed more or less straight away it was a scam. Kept him on the phone for around 40 minutes, with the wife saying I was a crank pot, she is probably correct. I ended the phone call with a loud voice telling him he was useless as a scammer ,and then used a few expletives to him. I can honestly say that I now NEVER get any scam calls.. My name must be on the avoid list.

I always keep them talking for as long as possible if I'm not busy - especially the 'Microsoft' "security issue with your computer" types. As well as being amusing, it also means they're not conning someone else.
I usually end it with "Does your mother know you're a criminal?"

I have lost count of how many times I have been told my email account will not be accessible after a certain date. It still works!

The problem is that all "financial transactions/advice" will be on-line. Without face-to-face companies there will be a much higher amount of scams and a much higher number of successful scams. At the moment, banks pay back scam money via their fleecing surplus funds from customers in the black. What is going to happen when the scam total is larger than available funds to the banks?
