Default Hi line sat nav mk3

Hello,

Wonder if anyone has any advice or tips etc.

My Hi line sat nav unit started playing up. Went missing from menu screen and graphics changed but was still powering up. Having read various from here and BMW forums, let it shut down correctly then removed it and started taking apart to see if a good clean might resolve the problem. I had already checked my tv module and that is working as it should.

So after a gentle clean removing a certain amount of grime etc I put it back together and tried it again. Now graphics are back to normal but the sat nav unit keeps ejecting the cd. So decided to get a BMW Mk3 replacement. This arrived not working (no power light). So decided to remove Laser Tray from original and use laser tray from BMW unit. With this I now have cd retained but no graphics.

Have since reversed the units again and have graphics but CD keeps ejecting.

Any ideas of how to resolve the problem?
And no I cant afford a MK4 unit at the moment.
Thank you in advance
Ralph

Clean the CD thouroughly and inspect for scratches. The units are very picky about the CD.

When the CD is ejected can you still select GPS Navigation on the head unit? You should be able to and it will say 'no map disc' (or similar). If the GPS option doesn't show then it's a deeper problem.

I've had this problem for years and cleaning the CD or changing it for another makes no difference. I'm told that it's because the unit detects the presence of a CD by reading it, so it may be a mechanical fault whereby the CD is not in a position where it is capable of being read. I plan to take the case off mine and observe what's happening.
