Single or double?
I was looking to upgrade my CR80 radio cassette player...not many cassettes about these days! This is a single DIN unit. I want to replace it with an all singing and dancing GPS stereo unit/rear camera etc.
Fitting a double DIN unit looks to need some work, which I am of course averse to doing, as I would just make a mess of my dashboard...so, I thought fitting a single DIN player, one with those extractable 7" screens, might be easier to do...plug and play, I hope! A straightforward replacement for the current radio, no? Has anyone fitted one of these, and is it as easy as I need it to be, or am I looking at an expensive garage bill..? I could just about manage swapping over the plugs, but not much more... Failing which, I guess I'll have to go with a double DIN...this one looks almost too cheap to be true: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quad-Core...K/223228744282 Anybody tried it? What you could do to see if it is a straight swap is to remove the current unit and look at the connectors. If they are ISO it is most likely a straight swap for any single DIN unit.
The unit you are referring to in the link seems decent but expect no support. And support is what you really want if you buy a no-name unit like this. These devices all have their own bugs. Sometimes it is the radio reception, other times MP3 or MP5 won't work or the satnav is refusing to find satellites. You might be lucky and the unit might just work. If you are looking for a double din (or OEM look) you might want to have a look at Androidice.co.uk. Admittingly more expensive but Jubbs (here on the forum) is the owner and provides support above and beyond... HTH

Thanks Sjonnie for the info.
I understand that Androidice will indeed be a very good solution, but would prefer to try the single DIN route for now; and yes, as a poor pensioner, cost does matter. I appreciate you most often get what you pay for, but I am also constrained by lack of funds and an addiction to finding a true bargain . I'm not sure I would recognise ISO connections if I saw them, but presumably my CR80 radio cassette player, as a standard Rover player, will have them. |

Good morning
Iso connectors look like these: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...nit_in_car.JPG You can easily recognise them if you pull out the old radio.

Thanks again. Looks pretty standard.
My reluctance to go with the double DIN unit stems from fear of hacking about my dashboard, plus I have no tools to speak of other than a cordless drill and a few spanners... Perhaps if I knew a garage nearby that would fit it for me without breaking the bank, I would change my mind. I'll have to ask around... |

You can get fascia adapters for 2DIN units for your 75. The adapter is like the one you have now but fitting for a 2DIN. You can find them on eBay for a few pounds.
No need to hack around your dash with the adapter EDIT: All you need to place the adapter and the unit is a (Philips) screwdriver. I am guessing you have one laying around
