Indeed I agree. I don't think the OP mentioned idle unless ive missed it somewhere along the line. I assumed the vibration was felt when driving.

In Mr Huggins original post of 2nd Sept he explained his problem was with the engine idling and car stationary.
If you had not read it you would not realise that.
No harm done, unless you take into account his bank balance after swapping the rack.

Yes and still crying after swapping the rack with no improvement.....A MG Rover specialist garage has suggested that by going into the ECU with the T4 interface, they could increase/vary the 650rpm idle speed to smooth out the vibration resonance - and indeed if I add some light throttle, the vibration does ease somewhat. However, another MG Rover specialist has advised that the ECU has a default idle speed and cannot be changed. Even more confused now, I appeal to the Forum yet again!! ED

i have seen the idle speed sweaked in a T4 but is that not putting a sticky plaster over the underlying issue??

My idle speed is currently 850rpm, I know it should be 780 but at some point it has been on a T4 and increased. A T4 is needed I believe to alter tickover.
Mine also is not as smooth as a lot of diesels I have owned, struggling with trying to solve it as well.

Default IDLE Revs

The tickover can be adjusted in 10 rpm steps via a T4 but you should double check the actual revs via the onboard computer if you have one as the dial can be quite a way out. I spent more than two years trying each and every suggestion as to why I had vibration through the column and the seats until I found the answer........The drivers side HYDRAMOUNT......cured it instantly.

If it eases with a dab of throttle, then surely that would point to an engine mount issue? (perhaps even coupled with another already now sorted problem)

I agree, the tickover "fix" always sounded a bit of a crude solution to me, but right now I am just exploring all options left to me. Thanks for this.
