Had a quick half hour early this morning and swapped the reversing sensor loom on the tourer. Had to fit a saloon loom but it did the job and goodbye constant beep, hello working sensors!

I started to swap the chrome mirrors to body coloured and found they didn't move in all directions (well they were free). Luckily I was testing them before bolting on, so I've stayed with chrome.
Then vacuumed the interior.
Then checked the plenum drains. The middle one was partially blocked, with no standing water, and the pollen filter didn't look to have been reached. Removed debris and unblocked the drain. I should make some guards from gutter mesh.
Then removed the balance vis motor to check ease of movement and confirm position of the flap.
Then removed and cleaned the two bonnet catches. They were full of gritty grease which i washed out. Degreased the underside of the bonnet. Had to refit them by trial and error because i hadn't marked their positions before removal.

Bonnet release lever snapped, so.....
  • Strip down front end
  • Remove bonnet latches, clean, repaint, reassemble and refit
  • Clean up junction box and spin the joint block round as recommended
  • Remove headlamp clusters, wet n' dry then mop them with some G3 & polish
  • Fit new bolts and Dzus fasteners on the 28 plastic bits underneath
  • Discover indicator/fog lamp plastic assembly inside the o/s of bumper has had some sort of incident that has shattered it. There is very little left. Start thinking about the fun I could have taking a sledghammer to the damn thing.
  • Refit front end and gaze in wonder at the various bolts a previous owner decided to fit in place of the original fixings. Dear me.....
  • Go on eBay and put the various bolts left over up for sale*.
  • Find strange bits of wiring that start and go nowhere and remove them.
  • Re-hang passenger doorcard that had been put on very badly - the howling on the motorway from that side should stop now
  • Curse the numberplate lamp that doesn't work and the dreadful tinny sound of the bootlid when closing
  • Finally, fit new lever (£5 from a scrapper). Which works fine. Fit footwell kick panel. Lever stops working. Remove panel, swear at lever. Refit panel. Lever works fine although cable feels a little stretched.
  • Get in car, remember that the remote mirror adjustment has also stopped working. Mutter many dark things and write up next weekend's job list.
* That was a joke.
