Default automatic gearbox failure

hello all, i have a problem with my 4th gear when it's cold all goes well but when he is hot and transceiver turn to his fourth he goes briefly into neutral before he switched while the rest passes through beautiful.
The automatic transmission has been on the computer and displays no error codes and the mecanic think its a broken valve, what do you think, and is there someone with a drawing that explain how you can measure the selenoid with a multimeter
regards
Falco

I should think you have an issue with one of the duty solenoids...

If you do a search on this forum for solenoid you will find lots of information for it...

Hello Falco and to the club.

May I begin by congratulating you on your Atlantic blue 1.8 litre Classic MY 2000 Rover 75. What a wonderful example to own! Look after it well and as the years pass it will be appreciated more and more.

I don't think it's a broken valve! My reasoning is based on your evidence that the fault is apparent only when the engine is hot.

Has the automatic transmission fluid been renewed recently?

Simon

Hi Simon Excuse me jumping in on thread, but I'm about to change my auto transmission oil(90,000),are you implying this could cause problems? Better to be fore warned thanks.

It won't cause problems if you follow the correct procedure.

Info in the forums How-To's.

No Derek. As Colvert says, if you follow the official level checking procedure and use a fluid meeting N402 specification then I would not expect any problems.

Your symptoms may indicate a failing reverse piston, but check solenoids & replace ATF before starting to draw that conclusion.

Solenoid resistance values here.

ATF meeting MG Rover specification here.
