Default more modding

A few more bits done on Redfive this week.

Bought a 4 hole walnut switch panel to convert to a 5 hole (couldn't get hold of a factory 5 hole panel) and painted it firefrost to fit to the car. Needed the extra holes for the heated seat switches, rear powerblind, and the heated windscreen switch as originally it had just a 1 hole switch panel for the cruise control switch.

Also fitted a fiber optic blue LED strip along the dash. Just a new little idea I thought I'd try out. I already have blue LED air vents in the typhoon so didn't want to do the same thing in this car, so came up with this idea.

Default More work done on Redfive

the new heated windscreen has been fitted this week. Just got to wire it up now.

Done a small modification to the MG7 tail lights to improve the clarity of the indicators by swapping the location of the indicators with the reverse lights. See my post here: https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=303638

Also been sorting the rear bumper pods over the last couple weeks to finish off the side skirts. These pods were originally on my typhoon ZT but one was damaged when a prat crashed into the back of it a couple years ago.

So started off with flattening these back and repairing any damage. Took a bit of sanding to try and get these to fit as flush as possible. These are moto build fibreglass ones which are a absolutely terrible fit off the shelf.

Then primered, flattened back again to smooth then all down and then base coat applied and lacquered. Then flattened back and polished

All fitted yesterday along with the rear diffuser.

Another little touch added to the firefrost ZT. Red fabric MG badges on the seat backs

Just a quick update on more work done on Redfive.

Powerfold mirrors and switchpack has now been fitted. The loom didn't come with the powerfolds or the plugs but really no need for them. The powerfold loom is simply 2 wires which run from the driver's switch pack (which I just used 2 pins from a spare driver's switch pack plug to inset into my window switch plug on redfive), which then split off into two pairs, 1 pair going to the driver's side powerfold plug and the other pair going to the passenger side powerfold plug. Only tricky part is running the cable from the driver's door across the car to the passenger side door. I couldn't be bothered to remove the front doors in order to pass the wiring through with the rest of the door loom between the doors and the car, so just ran the wiring from the driver's door through behind the wing to the plenum and ran it across there behind the passenger side wing and through to the passenger side door. Found this much easier and far less time consuming.

Converted the powerfold mirror switchpack to blue as well to match the rest of the dash lights.

The biggest job done last week was re trimming the door cards in a red alcantara style fabric. Done this over a week in stages. At the same time I decided to modify the speaker grills. Never liked the speaker covers on the 75/zt, so bought a set from a Jag with chrome rings and fitted those. Also managed to source some Harman Kardon badges to fit to the speaker grills. The retrimmed door cards are a little rough around the edges and wont win any awards but dont look too bad, always like to give these sort of things a go and definitively the hardest bit of retrimming I've done.

I've also fitted some red warning lights fitted to the side of the door cards. Much better than the cheap reflectors they stuck to the doors on the earlier cars which were then replaced with reflective stickers on the later cars to go even cheaper! Done the same on my typhoon a few years ago.

and also added 1 blue ambient LED to each door card to shine a nice blue glow on the door cards.

Default Lighting modification

Another little modification I've done is set up the mg7 tail light rings and number plate lights to turn on when i unlock the car. This goes quite nicely with the red halo rings in the headlights and fog lights which were already set up to turn on when the car is unlocked. I've also set up the backlighting on the instrument cluster and dash clock to turn on when the car is unlocked, something I also done on my Typhoon a few years ago.

Here's a video of the mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdXM...ature=youtu.be

For those with a sharp eye will notice the indicators on the MG7 tail lights are where the reverse lights normally are in the video. This is a little modification I done a month or so ago, to switch the location of the indicator bulbs with the reverse light bulbs. As standard the indicators on these MG7 tail lights are located in the center of the red rings, which is fine in the day but can make the indicator difficult to see at night. To solve this I've switch the indicators with the reverse lights so now the indicators are very clear and the reverse lights are clearly visible to see as well (as white inside the red rings is easier to see than amber inside the red rings was - far less of a clash in colours).

Another little mod. New LED illuminated gear knob fitted. Got new leather gaiters ordered (non-perforated) to match the gear knob and seats. Got an aluminium hand brake grip ordered too, will have to see if that will fit.
