New Sony Head Unit....SWC?

Just got a Sony 1 din DAB+ head unit from Halfrauds. I'm going to fit it tomorrow hopefully but know I'll struggle with the steering wheel controls. What type of controls do our cars use? Maybe if I have to buy something to enable the SWC should I be looking at something for a specific BMW model? Any help much appreciated. Just for the record, the unit model number is
MEX-N7300BD

I'll put this another way. Has anyone bought (and fitted) a 'patch lead' for an aftermarket radio to our cars to enable steering wheel controls.

One of these in the link you will need depending on what oem stereo it had in from the factory.

Thank you, the car had a Sony when I got it, but the SWC's weren't wired in and didn't work. I'll look at the 2 plugs in the loom and get the right one (hopefully) from that.
