I've noticed a very bad residue on my car for the last two weeks or so.

It looks more like red sand, we often get told of wind from the Sahara carrying it over, I never thought it could be volcanic ash!

Volcanic ash is much finer than sand and thus will be carried far greater distances than sand by the wind and at far greater heights.

Default If anyone is interested.

If people look up the Summer of 1816 they'll find it was the year without a Summer due to volcanic activity. That year was a very bad year for crops and there were actually gangs ambushing people for meagre amounts of food. It's an interesting story and many are unaware of it, there's also pictures to be seen of Niagara falls frozen solid in 1911 if you look for them or Paris flooded in 1910. It's got to be those cars!

Managed to get the car showered and washed yesterday (Sunday) and this morning , guess what? Once again covered in white ash again, not sand. I suppose with all these volcano’s popping their tops, you can not expect anything else. If people don’t use showering equipment first, there is going to be some scratched cars about.

And I think I've read somewhere about all the folks who have PCP deals finding out at "swap/return" time that paintwork scratches/swirls (and wheel kerbing) are NOT wear & tear so not included/covered for the final value so a deduction is made.

Apologies if I've not got some of the terms quite right - not got a PCP and extremely unlikely to ever have one so haven't looked into the terms.

Indeed they are not and also stone chips over a certain size, a mate returned his Ford after a 4 year contract and the amount of fees to correct ''damage'' meant it was cheaper for him to purchase the car. They wanted 4 new tyres ( not cheapos) even though they were still legal , new brake discs and about half the car painting ( by an approved painter). To the average person the car looked immaculate but they expected it to be returned in as new condition and it had over 60k miles on it. There was also going to be an excess mileage charge of about 2000 miles and that was 0.50p a mile.

The problem is people don’t read the small print hidden away very often in small print you can only read with a good magnifying glass.

They actually admitted to him once he had paid them for it that they have so many coming back that they are encouraged to sell them to the person handing it back even if it means selling it at a discounted price.

He listed it on Ebay the following week and made a small profit without having to spend a penny other than putting a new MOT on it that it passed with not even an advise even though Ford wanted new tyres fitted.

I hear of so many people having these kind of problems once there lease deal has come to an end it makes you wonder why people still do it. Not that I have any intention of buying one but when you see the deals available on 2 and 3 year old cars I personally would take this option unless I win the lottery.
