Default Diesel Alternator

Hi all, I had to start working back in the office this Monday..
So started using the car everyday so far this week after not using it for a while, it was making a rattle/rumbling noise..! I found out today what it was when the charge fault warning light came on with the battery light - I just hope there's enough in the battery to get me home.

Does anyone know where I can get a good quality 'new' alternator from speedily so I can fix it over the weekend? The car is a diesel ZT.
I was thinking Eurocarparts but not sure of the quality.

Thanks
Steve

I bought this a year ago from them. Good service and alternator has been fine.

Euro carparts do three types RTX > Lucas, and Bosch they will need your reg, also make sure you know how many pins it as two or three.

There is a surcharge on all the above, but if you use MID60 discount code you get the first one for £145.42 there are two of this make RTX so double check which one if for your car.

Lucas one
£191.08 again double check it the one you need.

Bosch is a whopping
£398.98 with the code used

Maybe worth check ebay.

Why.---Because alternators don't normally make any noise when they fail.---Crankshaft pulleys do though.--

Hi Thanks colvert, excuse my ignorance I must have been extremely lucky then as I've never had one fail before, the rattle rumbling noice reminded me of a dry bearing type noise reminiscent of the alternator or water pump bearing.

I managed to get the alternator off and the spindle runs smooth - when I drove home the battery light was on continuously.
As a matter of course I'm now going to replace the alternator, thermostat as its has a slight weeping and was going to replace the water pump.

How do I check if the crank pulley is goosed? I had a spanner on it and gave it some turning wiggling but it seems ok, theres no obvious play. Should I just replace it while I have access? (DMGRS = £189).
Any replies welcome

There are some pictures on the forum of a damaged ( worn out ) pulley. Posted I think by Arctic.

If he reads this post he will probably guide you to his pictures.---

Don't go buying any expensive items though until you do a check.--
