Default outside temperature

my sensor has suddenly started reading -30 ,earlier the faster the car travelled ,the temp increased to -19. I have checked the wiring on the sensor, can't see any breaks, does this indicate sensor failure?

Not sure, I assume it was previously working ok, and you haven't disturbed the wiring for anything else?

If you need a replacement, I have a spare

Have you had the battery off as if you have it'll take a while to reset

No Steve, just had the battery disconnected for nearly an hour to see if it made any difference, it didn't ,so looks like the sensor is caput.
Anyone know how it comes apart from the plug?

For some reason (maybe it's placing) the wiring from the sensor is known to corrode and give a false reading!

I would strip back the insulation and I'm pretty sure that you'll find that the core has gone black!

Simply keep stripping back until you find copper coloured wire again and add some new if necessary!

Sorry Richard, I've never done one!

I don't know whether this helps or not?

Mine showed funny fluctuations when cornering - was a bit wet in the connector.

A squirt out with WD and a dry out sorted it.
I silicon greased it before pushing it together again.

There's 2 temp sensors (on my derv.) The temp display sensor is pointing inside, behind the bumper, the FBH sensor is pointing outside below the rad.

If the connector's got a wire clip just pull the clip out of the plug with pliers and the plug will wiggle off

Are we getting confused between outside temp sensor as shown in #7 and the FBH sensor which has a sprung wire clip that needs pressing down to release.
