Hmmm what upgrades for this Classic SE CDT?
Ok am having a break and a drink......... very warm out and am leaking a lot of fluid here!
So have been wondering about some of the missing bits and extras that this base model Classic does not have like I noticed no cooling vents for the rear seats! No cup holders and no heated seats. Am wondering how difficult it would be to upgrade and add a few of these items with out going mad and spending lots of dosh doing so. The passenger cup holder should be a doddle to do . Swap the stereo for a Symphony one at least and fit a CD changer. How much hassle would it be to convert to ATC rather than the A/C with dials like it has now. I happen to have a spare ATC control unit but of course the sun sensor on the dash would have to be added and I do not know if the actual conditioning unit is different or not. Would also like front fogs as we do get fogs here on the fens. So need to make a wish list and plans then see what exactly is involved

Sounds a little like the adventure I had with my Classic SE CDT a few years ago, and if you check my blog and go waayyyyyy back, you'll see some of the upgrades I performed on mine.
(Only car I've ever regretted selling, wish I'd kept it as a second car) You can certainly add rear vents, you will need to remove the centre console, cut the blanking plate off the bottom of the aircon unit, and fit the tube and vents (I actually have some tubes going for free if you need one). Changing the whole system is dash out to replace the aircon unit, not for the faint hearted. As long as the aircon is working, I never saw the point in doing it. Front fogs is doable, but, the very early CDT's are missing a wire from the fusebox so be warned - you can add it in though. Plenty of scope - if you are in no rush just source the bits as cheap as you can and fit them at your leisure |

I have basic air con on my Classic Tourer, and it works! With the ATC systems on my others, they either don't work or constantly need re-gassing, due to their small capacity.

Thank you for that titbit. The Connie of course has the ATC and it dodn't give us trouble though I cannot say for sure it works now as we have not used her for a long time. Adding the rear vents sounds a good idea so will put that on the list Quote:
Oh there is no rush first things first get ECU tested and repaired/replaced then get her up and running is the priorority. Then an MOT and then and only then can we really think of improvements.

Updated list
Well this is what we have in mind for improvements:-
1) Replace worn steering wheel 2) Get a proper interior valet. 3) Get passenger cup holder and fit it. 4) CD Changer 5) Add the rear A/C vents 6) Fit manual rear blind 7) Cruise control That will do to be going on with.

Are you sure the cupholder's not just jammed Insert a flat blade bottom right & lever it out. Removes the whole cassette

Will take a look tomorrow have done enough destruction for today.
Boot plinth would not budge so had to use brute force and have discovered that the O/S number plate lamp is U/S just won't work at all so need to replace it with one that does work.

You can bypass the PCB completely & just hard wire the bulb retainers from the plugs inside the boot lining There's a how to somewhere

Had my Connie for nearly a year now and i would look at getting it running, then full service, then check brakes and tyres, mot, then add cruise and parking sensors, then upgrade the stereo. Never used the cup holder or blind, don't need the memory seats or electric adjustment as I'm the only driver, I like leather but that's a personal thing 😊. Steering wheel comes up well with paint/dye if it's applied in lots of layers and coated in a sealant - if not too worn.
