Default Advice please for a new ZT CDTi owner please (thermostat)

Good afternoon to all, I`ve recently aquired my ZT-T + CDTi facelift 2004 and suspect a stuck open thermostat.
Any thoughts or experiences on the `quick fix` in hose Renault 5 modification.
Perhaps just for now `till the weather gets better ?
Really enjoying the car so far.
regards to all
Simon

The in-hose mod is the cheapest and easiest way to go.--

It works very well indeed. Don’t expect the gauge to work 100% though as sometimes it does and sometime doesn’t work but the engine will be heating up as it should and heat inside will be as it should.
The question is though is this. What makes you think there is a problem with the stat in the 1st place? I ask this because it can take a good 10 to 15 mins of driving (up to 30 mins at idle) for the engine to reach temperature and to give hot air inside.

As a side issue, if you have not got one, fit a fuel burning heater, FBH. Our cars use a webasto.
If you have one and it does not work, advice can be forth coming to diagnose the problem and which members to turn to for repairs

???????????????????

If there are no airlocks, the gauge will operate completely normally

All of my diesel fleet have the inhose 'stat fitted simply as it's a sight easier and cheaper than spending three hours fitting the correct part.

I agree with Brian fit the top hose Renault stat, all my tourers have this mod, wouldn't think of replaceing the original stat far too much hassel and prone to short working life. Mod is a fit and forget and enjoy warm car

Had my in-line stat mod fitted for seven years now, still nice and toasty and a fully functioning temp gauge as normal.

The only time I would fit a genuine stat is if the o ring is leaking, otherwise the top hose one is fine.

Yeah what a pain they are to fit, and last time I purchased one it was £40+ and only lasted a few years before failing again, now I only fit 5’s and they seem to last for ages, my top tip for anyone fitting one is test it off the car first, with a probe to make sure it opens at the correct temp, had one in the past that opened early at 83 degrees lol

I have no air locks, the heating works great yet the gauge never goes above 1/4 way

If you ever fit a genuine stat, do you need to remove the top hose one?.
