ZT CDT puzzling starter problem
Hi all.
I'm getting a strong click from my starter solenoid but it refuses to turn over. I've got 12.4 volts between the battery terminals, no voltage drop at the clamps, 12.4 volts at the constant live on the starter and good continuity when putting my multimeter between the battery and starter casing. However I'm only getting 11.7 volts at the ignition spade connector when turning the key. Should that still be enough voltage to turn the starter or is the ignition connector/cable faulty? Thanks in advance. John |

The contacts in the starter solenoid have burnt away. Easy job to replace them. Arctic has a --How-To--- on the form.

Thanks for the replies!
I've ordered a kit and had a sneak preview at the fitting procedure, looks not too bad. Thanks again! |

New plunger and contacts fitted earlier and it's like a brand new starter!
Just before it failed I did notice a rattling noise coming from it a few times after releasing the key. Judging by the state of the plunger ring and contacts the rattling must've been the armature and pinion jumping back and forward whilst turning the engine. Thanks again for everyone's help! |
