Default Stiff change from park to reverse

Hi,

The gear selector on my v6 automatic is very stiff to move on start up from park to reverse, and visa versa.

Moving through the other gears is smooth and when driving all gears are fine.

I changed the transmission fluid today, using the full change as put up by member on here, was hoping that may ease it a little but it hasn't.

Only things hat come up when searching for clues on here are maybe one of the solenoids inside the box, or maybe it could be the gear selector on the casing??

I did change one of the solenoids in my previous auto and a little fiddly but easy enough, so can do that if needed.

Adjusting the gear selector cable under the transmission, i looked in the haynes manual and got a little confused with there talk though!!

Has anybody had this issue or have an idea of what the cause may be?

Thanks in advance . Steve.

I am guessing that you may have 'knocked' something related to the selector, but it is purely a guess.

I have experienced the issue you have described, however it was caused by the leather gaiter around the gear selector. May be worth just checking this hasnt been dislodged whilst selecting the gears after the fill, in particular 3 and 2 which are always stiff for me due to lack of use and a recovered gaiter.

Loosen the 13mm nut that holds the cable (Ensure the cable moves freely through the hole in the fixing - Some plus gas may be needed)

Once loose, move the gear selector through all gears then back into park, nip up the 13mm nut and see if it feels any better.

Loosened the nut and squirted some penetrating oil in but couldnt move the cable in or out of the clamp by hand so didn't go any further just in case.!!

Thanks.

Undo the two 10mm headed bolts holding the cable to the gearbox, you can then lower the cable downwards this will give you room to work the securing nut so that the cable slides freely.
