Default I broke down

As part of my house move I needed to take our caravan to storage.
I seem to have one or two binding brakes, near side on my saloon.
I had to park up and have the wife come and get me with the Tourer.
Have been back to collect the saloon as it had cooled down but with tools in storage and no garage to work in, the prospect of working on the brakes does not fill me with joy.
Only binding a little but the heat built up and it became an issue

I also have a long list of jobs to do, one of them being quite important, finding a house to buy.

Not a good day to have a problem.

It's not Ice and snow on the ground so that's always a plus, I'd suggest putting a bar on the calipers and cracking them with a hammer to try a temporary fix.

+1 for the hammer trick, it usually gets you by until you can strip and clean.

I've got a sticking OSF caliper Ian - discovered it whilst working in York. Just driven back down and did over 200 miles without using the footbrake. .

Had to use it just after starting off as there was a jam on the A1 exit off the M18., So pulled off the motorway, whipped the wheel off and opened the caliper with a large screwdriver and was good to go.

Sorting it is tomorrow's job.

I've done a bike calliper on the side of the road but a car
Do let me know if you replace the seals or manage to clean the piston if that is where the fault is without stripping it down. No idea where my brake hose clamps are.... in a box in a storage container I think. Even if I knew what box they were in I would struggle to find the box.
I have a feeling I will need to park the car on the drive and leave if for a few days. I think I need to create some shelving in the garage first because right now it is full to the door.

One of my fears this about moving to temporary accommodation, no where decent to work on the car.

In the past I've got away with just cleaning them out, but the last two I did on the Freelander I replaced the seals. Will order a seal kit just in case.

Try cleaning rust etc off the sliding parts of the caliper and pads before you go down the seals road I had the same issue cleaned them up and painted them they then stuck on a little blob of paint it doesn’t take much

Cleaning up does work, my rear n/s was sticking, so caliper off pads out and piston almost to end of its travel, wet N dry paper to clean up the piston and a thin coat of BELZONA 8211 an anti seizure compound. That was 2 years ago and no more troubles. Lee.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Almost all the issues I've had with calipers was from slider pins not sliding.

A good work out of the pistons with a rewind kit - something like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL...wAAOSwGbFfySNx - then the removal, clean, grease and replace of the slider pins has worked wonders.

And yes, a thorough clean off of any rust and gunge where the pads contact the caliper is very worthwhile. I have known pads that are so tight it's a miracle that they retract at all. Generally fitted with the "hammer them in" method and all but impossible to remove.

Fingers crossed that it's relatively simple and straightforward.

Good Luck.
