Default Assistance required with mounting 5 VDC dash cam

Wife gave me for Chrimbo a RAC 205 dash cam...not the best but beggars cannot be choosers...it comes with the normal rubbish cigarette lighter adaptor for power source. I was just about to cut it off, to hard wire via fuse box, when noticed on the side of power supply adaptor: small specification label 12/24VDC IN 5 VDC out!! (Don't think cam would be happy with double the voltage etc?)

New plan, I have a spare female USB/Cigarette holder adaptor which will accept cam adaptor.....is there any where in passenger side fuse box that I can tap into Ign controlled source......one thing I did find is that cigarette socket in car is permanently live!

All depends how handy you are with a soldering iron, but I took to the 12v/5v adapter out of the casing and soldered two flying leads (with an inline fuse) to the 12V power in (where the pin spring [+ve] and side springs [-ve] were connected.

Put the who lot in some shrink wrap and connected the leads to my automatic wiper sensor power feed (switched) behind the light cluster using some scotch locks. Keeps the camera close to the power source and all the cables nice and neat.

Works fine and powers on when I start the ignition.

I wired mine in using a power adapter.
There are hundreds on eBay.

Like this one here

I plugged it in to the fusebox using a Piggyback for the fuse here

If you use a piggyback fuseholder, make sure it is the right size for the fuse panel - standard fuses (early cars) or mini fuses (later cars).

If you follow this, it shows how to get ignition switched power from the rain sensor loom:

Having taken light apart again it would appear I do not have yellow /white, but do have brown/white, along with black cable and purple cable??

Sure, lamp loom diverts from main loom .Main loom disappears towards screen(Glued down to lining) then down to right....maybe I haven't got rain sensor???
