Diesel losing water........
Having to top up around 300ml every 10 miles or so...….any ideas? No other symptoms other than heating up VERY quickly but NOT overheating. Car has done over 200k miles and is a great runner.

Hi Anna
Check the Y shape connector to the head they can leak there as the unit goes brittle and or the gasket leaks slowly, also look and the thermostat area to see if it is leaking there, check the O-rings on the cap, how much coolant do you have in the header tank topped just to the max line yes.

This happened to my CDT Tourer at a similar mileage - twice
The first time it was the thermostat, the second time it was an O-ring Details on this thread....

Only issues ive had with my diesel re water was the o ring on the pipe that goes into the thermostat rotted and an oil cooler which put oil in the coolant.
Id also have a look around the oil cooler as there is a rubber gasket which seals the cooler to the block which can get distorted if the aluminium cooler corrodes. |

Check the pulley on the waterpump is running true - and isn't leaning to one side.
That's how my last pump failed - the bearing failed, causing the pulley to lean to one side, and destroy the seal.

All the common leak points have already been covered so far in this thread, so just a case of getting the torch and tools out and checking each one.
Good luck with the finding it. |
