I've just had my insurance renewal quote from Swinton for my 2004 1.8 and with my full no claims bonus and 5k per year, fully comp, it was £146.17. Last year it was £116. so a 25% increase.

I got a decent deal last summer from the "post office" they beat all other quotes hands down but its was a bit random finding it as spent a week or two checking quotes online and post office quote for fully comp turned up one day at the end of that searching as thebest deal otherwise would have been twice the price for for fully comp on a cdti. Ididnt hesitate to snap up that deal as soon as it popped up, it will be interesting to see what sort of renewal they offer this summer.

I was with Hastings direct for 10yrs until last September when they said that they could not give me a quote on my Freelander 2 ?

This was questioned by me and they said the company they use does not give a reason?

I found out that because it is a Land Rover it is more likely to be stolen, so that was the reason.

Rover 75 Tourer Auto with them went up by £100 took that out until it was sold a few weeks later, got a full refund.

I am now with Churchill & Aviva for my FL 2 cars both have doubled in cost.

Is it the car that is insured or the person, if both why call it car insurance.

We are being ripped off and we all know it.

From the little feedback I've received from my last and only contact in the insurance trade, it seems that vehicle theft and other aspects plays a part but AGE has been the biggest factor after the increasing repair costs.

As we know, insurance companies target a particular market segment. For instance a couple of specialist might target the "younger/daft" market but make money with high premiums or offsetting in another segment. The majority go for the 25 to 60 age group and particularly for women drivers (safer and usually better drivers). I'm told that a number have exited from the older driver segment.

Yes, I know there is supposed to be no age or sex discrimination but the companies will just pay lip service to that (get a quote from Sheila's Wheels if they are still in existence) and stick to statistics.

I'm in the process of constructing a spreadsheet and graph for my insurance costs over the last 25 to 30 years or so (depends on how many old journals I find). Trouble is whilst I've always had multiple vehicles the number changes and so does the type of vehicle. So, a comparison will be on iffy ground.

Definitely an age thing, I am 67 now, last year I paid £230 with Aviva, only a £10 increase from the year before, this year I am waiting with baited breath.

I also have a BMW X3 3litre SE, insurance on that has skyrocketed for me to £720 this year so I cancelled it, my son who is 42 insured it instead with me as a named and main driver which came in at £425.

My son also has a 2019 RR Sport, lives in Cannock and to insure it he has had to have an insurance approved tracker fitted at a cost of almost £700, he also has a Ghost immobiliser and the insurance still came in at £1,200.

It why we call it rip off Britain. Makes you mad but all you can do is shop around.

It is car insurance as you are insuring the car. However the age, claims record and where you live affects the premium.

It is an accepted exception and legal exemption as a rating factor, entirely based on so-called 'mortality' and claim data appertaining to cover provided.
Well, it would be wouldn't it!

As an aside: in my years selling the stuff I developed a practice of asking a ladies age by offering her a blank piece of paper and a gold topped pen for her to avoid saying it out loud. Always produced an admiring glance and a giggle. Never failed to get the signature. Those were the days.

I know i was being sarcastically funny hopefully so therefore those of us whom have never had a car stolen, or accidents, etc should pay less not more surely, has i said we are being ripped off.

Incorrect. Personal injury or death far outweigh the cost of a lump of metal/plastic. I remember an accident in which a brain surgeon had to have a hand amputated. It cost the insurance company million(s) on a yearly payable agreement. This was in the early 80's and the vehicles involved cost peanuts in comparison.
