Rover 75 2.5v6 best engine in 75?
Hi i am writing this as i want to know what all of you guys think my dad has a rather nice launch 75 2.5 v6 all leather and that, and i think that the engine suits the car ie v6 smooth powerful and the sound. I know there are diesels out there and there owners might not agree with me but i think that the 75 with the 2.5 v6 is the best combination as its a luxury car and luxury cars in my mind come with big engines what are your views thanks Thomas. P.S: im not dissing the diesel or lesser engines as any 75 no matter what size or spec is a very special car.

Hi Thomas
The V6 is a lovely engine, and I have been very happy with mine. I have taken it from 43k to 80k since March 2007. The only downside is the fuel consumption, which seems a bit high for a 2.5 litre engine. Those who want economy go for the diesel, but there is nothing quite like the V6 when it comes on song above 3500 revs. |

Personal choice really. The V6 is a lovely engine to drive in 2 or 2.5 litre form. I had a 2.0 V6 auto for 2 years from new and did space mileage in it (82k) with very few problems. Admitedly it was mainly well thrashed motorway miles but it usually only did 27 - 30 mpg. I now have the diesel auto which, as everyone will appreciate, is a very different type of power plant. However, I find that for a diesel it's reasonably smooth, a little underpowered but "adequate" and above all very economical for the size of the car. The current fuel consumption round town is around 35 mpg and on a run 48. What you have to do is decide if you want to pay the premium for diesel economy/reliability or the power, smoothness and sound of the V6.
As I say - personal choice really. Cheers Phil

Hi Thomas. I had a 2.0 v6 which I "retired" before i found this site. I now have a diesel but it suits me fine, my boy racer days are long gone ! However, on an open road on a quiet sundy morning, the 2.0 packed a punch if you wanted it to, and the growl wen i did put her through her paces was a wonderful sound. Whichever engine is in these cars, you are going to have to look long and hard to find a nicer ride, such a shame all went wrong wen Rover got it right ! regards, Mark

not diesel minded, but the diesel can be very economical. and don't disregard a correctly maintained 1.8T |

Personally I have to have the diesel due to the length of my daily commute, and I'm quite happy with it. That said, if daily running costs weren't an issue, it'd be a V8
