In a word No.
The satellite dish is only used for recieving signals from satellites. There are other satellites other than sky that broadcast and may be recieved. Alternatively if you do have a sky box you can get a card which will allow you to view the free channels that sky push out such as BBC, ITV1, Ch4 and 5. If you want Terrestrial Freeview, you need an aerial very similar to a traditional TV aerial (in some areas an old TV ariel will actually work) you will then also need a digi box or a TV that has a digi receiver built in.

You could buy a second hand sky digibox from ebay, there only about £20, and simply plug it into the existing dish in the new house.
This will give you BBC1, 2,3,4, ITV1,2,3,4, Sky News, BBC News 24, Film 4, Cbeebies, Childrens ITV and a host of other channels for free without needing any kind of subscription or viewing card. Mr Murdoch won't get a penny Here's just a selection: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...All-Categories |

Just for info chaps I have installed my own satellite system and receiver and get all the free to view plus all the regional BBC & ITV channels. All free
All on a 80cm dish so more than big enough for the job.

As for the card, I am not sure now but you used to have to get a card from sky for free in order for the box to work. From what others are saying, this is probably not now the case. I do not believe that your Sky+ box will work as a recorder without paying the + subscription. Good Luck

Thats right, there is nothing stopping you from connecting up your Sky+ box and using it to watch the unencrypted channels without having to obtain a viewing card, but it won't be able to record anything unless:
A) You obtain a sky viewing card, and take out a subscription for one of their channel packages B) Have the box connected to the telephone line C) Pay the £10.00 per month additional charge for the Sky+ functionality to be authorised D) Have a dish with multiple outputs giving a second cable feed to the Sky+ box's other dish input. This is what allows you to watch one channel while you record another. Any size dish will be fine for the reception of the Sky channels, as long as the bit on the end is a digital LNB, and not an old Analogue one from yesteryear. And as long as it is pointing at the Astra 2 satellites at 28.2 degrees East, you'll get your channels. Of the terestrial channels, it's only five that you won't get. That is encrypted using Sky's Videoguard system and will require a free to air viewing card, available from Sky at a small one off charge if remember correctly. |

Don't forget FreeSat.
About 87 TV Channels and 37 Radio plus HD BBC 1 and ITV HD all free to view. Boxes available cheap as well as PVR ones (Record one channel watch another) and a lot more expensive are the HD ones. Argos have some cheap ones with HDMI output. |

I'm loving the HD programs, as much for the Dolby 5.1 sound on some of them, as for the cracking picture. ITV HD isn't there all the time, but is getting more frequent. BBC HD is a channle on it's own, but repeats a LOT of material. |
