Default sick of reverse camera install

I am getting sick of this reverse camera install. I have tried to wite up the camera trigger lead (pink) from the head unit to wire number 6 (mine is red/white) on the 6 pin plug thats behind the HU but still nothing so I got the multimeter and tested it and its got a 12v supply all the time even when not in reverse so thats not it. I tried the other 2 wires in the plug and they have 0 volts in or out of reverse. I take it it should only get 12v when reverse is selected? Would it be ok to run a wire from the + reverse light to the HU pink trigger wire or will it do damage.

That's how I connected mine, I extended the pink wire to the back of the car and spliced into the connector at the light unit.

Hope this helps.

This is the reverse signal wire, green/brown wire.

This plug is located tucked somewhere behind the headunit.

I have found the plug but 2 of the wires have no volts and the one going to pin 6 is 12v all the time so its triggering the "reverse screen" all the time when connected to the pink wire on the HU.

So I am right in thinking that the pink wire on the HU just needs a 12v supply to trigger the auto switch screen.

Yes you are correct.

The green/brown wire is missing from your plug, this being the case, follow the wires back into the loom [plug 5 in my picture]. The green/brown will most likely be found taped into the loom.

Worth a try, if not, a wire from the reverse lights should do the job.

Just been out to have a look, the pink wire is connected to the green/brown wire on the rear of the light unit.

Beaten to it.

I have been out to the car and looked for the green/brown cable but its not there. So it looks like I need to extend the pink wire to the reverse light +. Would it be ok to use the red wire thats connected to the yellow plug and connect the other end of the red cable to the reverse light as this cable has already fed from the rear to the front of the car and would save me pulling another one through the car. Something like in picture below
