Car ramps
I'm after a set of car ramps - any recommendations?? Don't want to spend a fortune but also don't want the car landing on me either! Plus they need to be low profile or I need the attachments. I've looked at quite a few and as always the reviews are mixed bags so would be good to hear from someone who's bought some relatively recently and is happy with the build quality?

If you have a lot of 18mm osb3 you could make your own.

It really depends on what you want to spend. For example, I've been asking Santa for a set of these for years:
I'm conscious these are rather expensive too, so Sealeys, Halfords & Clarke are the usual names to have a look at. I got a set with run-ups from Machine Mart. But as I have never really trusted wheel ramps after one of them began to collapse while I was under a motor, axle stands are of course still essential. I also really want a pair of these along with my standard axle stands. |

I can't give specific recommendations but make sure that you can actually get them up to the front wheels. The front bumper is quite low and the wheels themselves are a long way back from the front of the bumper.
I've made some "extra" sections that clip onto my ramps to make a sort of dual angle ramp which fits under the bumper right up to the wheel. Hope that makes sense - I'll see if I can get a photo if you'd like one. Happy shopping. |

There's an old saying in the club..."If they are good enough for Artic they are good enough for me!".
Well, if there isn't one there should be. |

I love the look of the ramps Pete mentioned but I imagine they're quite pricey. I looked at the basic bottle jacking ramps but I see a lot of those up for sale with repairs made. There are some fabulous looking contraptions on eBay everything from pneumatic scissor lifts to things that will spin the car up onto it's side but I'm at the £100-150 mark rather than £500-1000! Thanks for all the comments! |

I have quite a handy dip in my gravel drive where there is a drain cover about five or six inches below the ground level and I haven't put a proper spacer in for it yet. When I have to get under the car, I scrape more of the gravel away and park over it. It's still a squeeze but I can access the engine bay reasonably well if I park it properly. I have ramps too but don't use them very much as it's awkward on the gravel.

I have a set of these and they seem OK - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391926403...mis&media=COPY
I usually don't bother with them, and just jack the car up then support on axle stands. SGS do a fantastic 3 tonne low-access jack which makes life easy, and Amazon Basics axle stands are surprisingly good quality.
