Hammerite with Waxoyl

When I bought my year old showroom model in 2003, I treated the underbody brake pipes with two coats Hammerite followed by WaxOyl. I had a part tin in the garage and I believe it was the original Finnigan's Hammerite. It had a formula using resins soluble in ketone type solvents that 'They' won't allow these days. This is why Hammerite (and a thousand other essential products) are a shadow of their former selves. The pipes are still perfect.


I used to clean and freshen up our wheely bin with that black, coal tar based Jeyes Fluid. These days it's a green pansy with very a small 'j'. How times change.

I remember when weed killer used to kill weeds.

That's the problem, the word 'killer' - not politically correct.

Lots of examples - - fly killer? - they laugh at it. Mouse killer?- can't get enough of it. Slug killer - er, there's an exception. 'Cos they're monophagous I guess. And paint remover? - what a joke.

Salt on slugs does 'em in.--

In France most things do what is says on the tin or packet but it's starting to change.

Soon the best thing to do will probably be just hit them with the tin.----

Talking about catching things, there's a spider living somewhere in our front porch that catches moths. So what's unusual about that? Well, it only catches one specific type of moth. On a regular basis, I find neat little heaps of moth wings. Dozens of little wings. And they're all identical, a mottled brown colour. The little heaps are intriguing in themselves, but all the same flavour is astounding.

if in the shade por 15 is much better and as hard as nails when dried for a few days

I have used Hammerite Schutz with waxoyl on 2 old vehicles that i had wire-brushed the rust off. I found that in many areas, the stuff didn't seem to stick properly, it crazed as it dried up and could easily be brushed or pressure washed off within a year or 2 of application, so not a job I want to be repeating every year. I know someone who swears by filling old box sections with cooking oil, having plugged any holes, then letting it drain out. I have noticed how it sticks to the paint below the fuel filler on my old diesel van - takes petrol to shift it.

Por 15, once it has gone hard over a couple of days you will struggle to get it off.

If it was me I was use Por 15 followed by Bilt Hamber Dynax UB after a few days. https://www.bilthamber.com/dynax-ub . I don't know how it does it but it well self heal .
