Had a leak in the same place drivers side under seat area. It was the pipe from the abs pump to the join under seat. Where the pipe clipped in the clip it had rotted.

Put the interior of the car back together with the new Mk1 carpet, bit of a fiddle to get in and get in place as I'd cut the old one to make it easier to get out, but once in it went down OK. The rest of the car went back together fairly easily as well and I didn't have any bits left over.

Still got to adjust the handbrake a bit now having fitted the new compensator, having set the 25mm thread from the nut, there is about 6 notches so another job for the weekend.

Looks and feels better now with the Mk1 carpet, whether it makes any difference to noise levels I don't know, there is still seemed the same amount of shaped foam on the back of it although the Mk1 carpet felt heavier.

I ran a wire from the fbh into the cabin ready for the gsm and relay wiring, went to move the car to find I had a dead throttle potentiometer!

Today was the day to enjoy a spot of crisp sunny autumn weather, so what better way to spend it, but under a nice shiny red 75





Spent a leisurely few hours tinkering, a set of intercooler O Rings, followed by gunking off a load of gunge where Rovetec had been less than careful with an ATF change.

Finally after inspecting bushes, drop link rubbers, brake pipes and track rod ends, I made some domed washers, then bolted the undertray back on.

So why domed washers I hear you say? well after sorting through my bits and bobs bolts, I found a few bolts I had recovered from door cards where the handles are bolted to the card.

These were screwed into the holes in the subframe with flanged nuts and pointing downwards.

Standard (new) fixings were used on the leading edge where it attaches to the bumper, and when the undertray was offered up at the back, the M6 nuts protruded through the holes.

This meant of course if standard washers were used, then the undertray wouldn't actually be secured firmly against the subframe, and would have the possibility of introducing chatter, and failure of the undertray where it is in contact with the washer.

So I machined up a domed die, then using a nut and bolt pulled in the die against a standard plain penny washer sandwiched onto a socket of slightly smaller diameter of the washer to create the dome washer.

Once these were fitted over the protruding bolt, and another M6 nut pulled in tight, the undertray is as solid as a rock, and a considerable improvement over the two cable ties previously employed.


It should be noted none of my own fleet have undertrays fitted, so this was merely an experiment.

So the bolt and nut where attached to the subframe are nipped tight with a dot of Loctite 243, and the second nut and washer securing the undertray itself given a generous dollop of Coppaslip on the threaded section, and a smear of LM grease on the nut head.

It wouldn't do to make the thing impossible to remove in the future

I took the opportunity of the nice weather to jet wash both the R40 & the FL2 underneath, inside wheels arches, and washed & waxed both after then I did my usual fluid checks, tyre's, lights etc, the R40 was pretty dirty after it's 240 mile trip to Wales & back yesterday.

I did little bit on my ZT on Sunday.

Replaced the intercooler to EGR valve hose as it had gone weak.

All went well, until the test drive, and ended up with a puncture!
Not sure yet if it's scrapped the tyre off yet as it was a weird shouldered bolt type thing. The tyre place need to check it's not made too big a hole to safely repair.

Seeing That it was a bright but cold sunny morning, I decided to have a look at the Silver one. Jacked front nearside wheel up and took wheel off. Tried the old rock the hub trick, to see if there was any play in the outer track rod and inner . Non on the inner, but more than there should be in the outer. Brake back plate was in need of some wire brushing. Sprayed WD 40 onto what I could, including the brake back plate for the time being. So far that’s two rear springs and a outer track rod to get. Going to start on the drivers side next.

Bought a dash cam in Asda today,on offer £20. Put it in car,no power to cigar lighter. Will have to leave it for a while.
