Which is entirely the right action to take... My arguement was with the poster that will drive through red lights with disdain ("with an overwhelming feeling of self-righteousness and smug superiority") and ridicules those that are patient enough to wait for a minute or so.

Of course, you need a system set up in a way that allows it. You can't have people making the rules up as they go along.

Perhaps the lights all stick on red in Dundee after midnight. I have driven through red lights, WITH EXTREME CAUTION, on a couple of occasions after being stopped for several minutes, with very occasional cross traffic, late at night, realising that my light must have stuck on red. The important thing is , you always STOP for a red light, and assess the situation. I have also stopped, then driven through single file road works when the lights appear to have stuck on red, and I can clearly see the road is clear beyond the roadworks. I could start a whole new thread on dangerous coneworks (not roadworks, as there is often no sign of ongoing work for several days). I suspect that poorly placed or confusing signage and conework is partly to blame for the daily accidents in the smart motorway improvements on the M6 in Cheshire, around Knutsford services. There must be something about that particular stretch which makes it more dangerous than the rest of the improvements. I rarely drive it, not in my area, but hear it on the radio almost daily.
