why would you do that ?i would say not. the chassis number is also built into the windscreen passengers side bottom the emissions for diesel are 1.0 now . mine was 2.3 but he let me take it for a blast and ended up 0.96 so it passed

No need to worry about emissions. Just put a shot of Redex Injector Cleaner in the tank, and give it some wellie up to 4000 rpm I second gear for around half a mile on a nice deserted road. And then do the same again on the return. Before you take it on the day for its mot,Give it the same treatment with your right foot. I more or less guarantee it will pass. Don’t worry about the 4000 rpm, it will go higher than that when they test it..

My Zafira 1.9cdti passed emissions last week at 0.54, that's with broken swirl flaps that leak oil into the intake manifold. It smokes like a chimney every time it accelerates. I though it was bound to fail.

I put 3/4 bottle of wynns engine cleaner into a quarter tank of diesel and took it up to Torquay to get some rover parts from Matt. This was about a 70 mile round trip literally just before the MOT. I drove most of the way on the dual carriageway in 4th/5th gear at minimum of 3500rpm and got everything nice and hot, and then took it straight to the garage.
I usually do at least 15 miles hard driving before any MOT to get the car warmed up.

More useful to the car to fit a clean air filter and clean the EGR valve.

Is the smoke limit of 1.0 on the VIN plate as the way I read it the limit is 1.5 except if the VIN figure if shown, although I may be misinterpreting the DVSA web site?
Personally I have not had a problem with diesels even with vehicles at nearly 200K miles. I always give it a good blast before taking to the test and make sure the engine is hot when I get there.

i think the diesels emissions test have all been set back to the manufacturers limits as the scandal with other car manufactures.. my testing station told me that you used to be allowed 3.0 or something like that but the pass is now 1.0 or under but i could be wrong

I wouldn't worry about it. They don't expect it to be cleaner than it was when new.

Just to set the story right.
The system is clear, based on date of first registration, this then is used to ascertain the limit, ours would be 3.0 if no plate value was selected or not visible due to their age. If the plate value is visible, IT MUST be entered on to the system or stated on the check list as the value or no value visible.

Engine oil temperature MUST be measured, and the use of the system's tacho equipment Must be put on to the vehicle to ascertain exactly when to release throttle from full acceleration.

ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T ...... Should find a new job as the rules are quite clear on the testing of diesels.

A quick piece of advice if your having worries about black soot problems, jack up the vehicle as high as you can, use a block of wood, and a hammer to strike the exhaust system along its entire length to loosen off the soot, then start the engine and apply a few generous bootfuls of welly, see all the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- that appears beneath the exhaust tail pipe, then present for test. REDEX wont shift soot from the exhaust.
Good luck.
