Hi, Thanks for the support
Yes, I did clean up the CH #2 with some 1200 wetndry paper. looking good now. Alle valves lapped nicely in and are in the process of putting them back in. A bit time consuming job to get the collets in place. Things start to shape up nicely. Some minor indentation in the CH, but think this should be OK. |

Well I'm no expert on the K aseries heads but I wouldn't fit that without skimming it first.
And just to qualify that statement I'm not an expert on anything else either. |

It seems to me that the K-cylinder head gets indented whatever you do, so giving this cylinder head another skim will just take away more material and bring it below the service limit. It was removed from a running engine, so I will take the chance of putting it back again and hope it seals well. I might be wrong, but will rather put my money on another good used cylinder head than skimming this one. I know I go against the flow and general advice here |

You are not alone I have done what you are doing , and would do it again . It worked fine on the 2 occasions I have reused heads without machine skimming , just a wet-and-dry "rubbing" .
Go for it

I would have to agree, a light skim to remove the imperfections would be beneficial im sure.

Some more work done.. I took the chance and fitted the cylinder head after a light wetNdry paper cleanup.
Pistons and liners fitted back to the block with liner shims. I now get the 0.004" blade under the ruler, so the stand off shall be sufficient for the MLS gasket. Cylinder head back on with the MLS gasket, 10.9 bolts and strengthened oil rail. Have to say that the Victor Reins MLS gasket looks a lot more "Premium" than the other MLS gaskets I have seen. The saver shim is stitched together with the gasket, probably to avoid that its fitted the wrong way around Sump back on, new oil filter and oil. I ran the engine with the starter for a short time to circulate inn the new oil so everything is well lubed up for the first startup. Did not have the spark plugs in place while doing this. Finalising the assembly with covers/brackets and inlet manifold is whats left. Victor Reinz MLS gasket in place: 10.9 bolts installed: |

Got the last bits back in place today and did the initial startup. A ceremony of caufhing, valve ticking and white smoke right after she fired up, but all settled quickly. Tappets settled after reaching operating temperature and she now purrs like a kitten
Now I need to sort a handful of minor issues (brakes and lighting) before taking her through the MOT. Videos: https://youtu.be/p-va0krS4Xk https://youtu.be/O3ULgEIzYe8 https://youtu.be/5xuGb5aTDmo Last edited by beinet1; 14th November 2020 at 17:17.. |

Good job. Start up is always a bit of a worrying time...
