Default Power steering reservoir cap seal ?

Is the power steering reservoir cap supposed to have an o-ring to seal it ?

My reservoir is covered in oil and it looks like its coming from the cap

No seal on the cap, it will be the vapours escaping causing the film of fluid you are seeing.

There is a tiny O-ring under the cap. Look closely at the bottom of the threads, and you will find it. There is also a ventilation bore in the cap, so the oil will probably come from this one.

P.S.

Friend of mine bought a V6 that had a plastic coke bottle plumbed in through the cap to the reservoir to drain excess fluid. Swopped the pump for a good used one and didn't need the coke bottle anymore.

Could be a sign the pump is on its last legs, but diesel pumps are different so a guess.

Regards

Could be bubbles forming in the system making the oil froth and leak out as it expands.---

Every time I check my power steering fluid, I give the cap and the surrounding top area a wipe off of the fluid. If you don’t I find that the oil that is around the top will spread over the top.
