2000 vs 2004 road noise
My “new” V6 2004 is not nearly as quiet on the road as my earlier 2000, so I’m thinking about changing the carpet over including the heater panels, is there anything else to cut down on road noise? Trikey once recommended some sound deadening sheets, presumably the mastic / bitumen type, but where should I place these? Really want a quiet car again.

Is it tyre noise due to different make/pattern?

Thanks for the reply - but unfortunately not as I'm running the same wheels (Dunlops) on the newer car. Recently did some work on a friend's 1999, a test drive after gave the same result - the older cars are quieter.

place them in the boot and inside wheel arches if that's possible. I've got 2 x lid carpets in the boot as well - but you're right, I test drove a 2000 diesel and was shocked at the difference in sound and ride comfort.

Sound deadening bags in b and c pillars and in the front wings, and as you said, dynamat under the carpet and above the fuel tank.
Drop delmor a pm he got a kit made for his ZT, it was already cut to size and was a doddle to fit.

This thread shows the effects of Project Drive: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=34369
There doesn't seem to be many that would have a significant affect on noise levels. Maybe sound deadening levels were reduced without much disclosure. Certainly tyre noise varies between brands very significantly, up to several decibels. That's quite a difference. Some tyre distributer sites list the decibel levels of each tyre they sell. Check out the MyTyres site for example. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 8th September 2019 at 20:44.. |

Thanks T-cut I have seen the link but also seen other comments about the carpet being thinner on later models, some carpeting deleted around the heater vents etc. If I compare the boot lining on the earlier car to the later there's a difference in the thickness too (must re-check tomorrow).
But as poster 75V6 agrees the earlier cars are quieter, and as I'm using the same wheels I can't blame them. it's now a question of finding out what I can do to improve my 2004 model. Regards |

Same experience here. My -99 is in another league compared to the 2003 I had a few years back. A sad result of the project drive. The early models seems to be better than the later ones in most ways.
