Brakes are old hat!
Are the car braking system manufacturers about to disrupted in a big way? DS showcases an electric car without brake discs, brake drums, brake shoes/pads that uses two electric regenerative motors instead of conventional brakes.
"Though regenerative braking is already available in most electric vehicles, the technology is currently used to complement conventional friction brakes – however DS is exploring whether regenerative braking alone could eventually be the sole method to slow cars down". I can judge the regenerative braking whereas I only need to lightly dab the brakes on the MG ZS ev to come to a complete stop It would feel weird getting behind the wheel of a car with no brake pedal though. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/manufa ... for-brakes

If there was no brake pedal, how would you do an emergency stop?

Some electric trains have regenerative braking, but it doesn't completely bring the train to a stop, The final brake to a stop is done by the normal disc brakes.

You have to create a "safe" word so the car knows its an emergency, four letter word beginning with F is probably the most appropriate.

The way travel is heading you shouldn’t need an emergency stop. The person in the car wouldn’t feel off not having a brake pedal because they won’t be controling the vehicle.
Obviously we all know otherwise and there’s nothing to stop something appearing in the road directly in front of the vehicle. I’m would imagine there will be a way of injecting power into a motor to effectively try and turn it the other way thus bringing the car to an abrupt halt.

Brake particles to be included in the upcoming Euro 7 standard emission rules for the first time ever . What are they going to do? retro fit every vehicle with a brake dust capture system.
"Ultra-fine particles from brake pad abrasion will for the first time be covered under an EU regulation to curtail vehicles’ contribution to air pollution, a move aimed at reducing the high level of the toxic particles in urban areas. The upcoming Euro 7 regulation, set to be unveiled in July, will force vehicle manufacturers to reduce the quantity of pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides emitted by cars." https://www.euractiv.com/section/electr ... ion-rules/

If electric cars can be slowed in certain circumstances, then why not be brought to a (dead) stop? Oh, just a minute, that happens now already. I wonder what the new world name for 'driving' will be.
Proceed in hope? The last ridiculosity is even now being reconsidered (hard shoulder). I can see it now, 'emergency' signal from gantries shutting down electric motors. The last great freedom! The open road it ain't! Oh dear...talk about suckers... Scalextric upgrade.
