Default Starter Motor Bolt (CDTI)

Browsing under the bonnet, as you do, and it looks like I might have a bolt (set screw) missing from the starter motor mounting (photo).

If this is correct, can anyone tell me the dimensions of the correct fastener?

Thanks.

There are two bolts holding the starter motor, and if I remember correctly there is a locating dowel. One bolt threads into the bellhousing and the other is secured by a nut.

I can see the long bolt and nut, but I’m struggling to see a second one, so was wondering if that’s where it should be, or are you saying that that’s where the dowel is located?

It was a few years ago that I last had a starter motor off Dave, but from what I remember the second bolt is further round from your arrow, so you should be fine.

Hi, having just done a starter removal, the 2nd bolt (top) is further back and has an earth lead attached to it, which runs across under some ducting to near the battery box. You may have to move a few leads out of the way to be able to see it. I found it easier t locate by looking down on the starter from further back if you have removed the engine cover/air ducting etc. Its a pig to remove that bolt if you have a FBH installed btw! good luck.

Last one I did was on an auto, and had to find the earthstrap bolt by feel and a long extension - far too much gubbins in the way to see it.

Hi Dave.
Mike & Gary are correct only to fixings one and bolt hidden behind some rubber ducting at the top and rear of starter, the other is a bolt and nut at the bottom, what you are seeing is the point for the dowel on the starter to line it up before fitting the bolts.
