Default Rover 75 Tyre Size - Alternatives

Hi Each

What are the alternatives re tyre size for my Rover 75 please?

Currently it has 215/55/16/93H and they need replacing.

I know I can't change the diam (16) but what wider width / profile combination can the wheel arch accommodate without rubbing etc.

If there is already a thread /article with the answers please direct me to it, I did search but could not find much

(PS anybody got any tyres they want to sell cheap?)

Many Thanks
Flint

With regards to changing tyre sizes:

If you are keeping the same rims then you will be limited on choice: Altering the width is pretty much out of the question as they wont fit your existing rims. Varying the profile is possible but would affect the readout on your speedometer. (Lower profiles = firmer ride, more 'feedback' from the road. Higher profile = plusher ride, more prone to deformation when pushed to the limits during cornering, less feedback in some cases)

You can keep the overall wheel size (16") by varying the rim and tyre profile accordingly. All 75's had the option of fitting 17" wheels so you could fit larger rims and put smaller profile tyres on to keep the speedometer readout normal. Otherwise you will need to re-calibrate it. All 75's/ZT's will take 18" wheels. The ZT standard wheel spec are 245/45/ZR18

Notice you have H rated tyres already.

Just had a quick look at my handbook and seems that tyres for the 16 inch wheel should be W rated.

Simon..
Both the Rover 75 and MG ZT when fitted with 18" wheels the tyre size is 225/45/R18. Even the V8 models have this size.
Some members have fitted 225/40/R18 owing to them being a bit cheaper with no noticable difference in speedo readouts.
The 16" wheels were fitted with 215/55/R16 and the 17" with 215/50/R17

Ahh, my mistake on the tyre size. 225 and 245, similar numbers when speed-reading elsewhere

Hey Guys

Thanks for the replies, all good stuff.

David, thanks for pointing out the incorrect rating (H) previous owner obviously fitted the wrong / cheaper type.

On average, about how many miles do tyres on a 75 Club 1.8 do? I know it depends on 'this that and the other' but on average ... like about 25K or whatever?

I guess you guys who've had 75s from new will know?

Cheers

Contis 195/65/15 V lasted about 28k miles on my V6 2.5 Auto Saloon. Put a new set on soon after I bought it if thats any help.

Dont tend to corner on the door handles though so much will depend on your driving style.

I've not got an Owners Manual so could any kind soul tell me if I need XL rated tyres for my 75 Club 1.8 Turbo?

Also could you confirm the correct tyre size ... currently, I've got 215/55/16 on the front and 225/55/18 on the back!!
