Hi Wurzerk,
Dimensions of petrols & diesels the same????
Why? they are totaly different engines, diesel is a BMW engine, petrol MGR design.
I note that the diesel bracket bolts are much heavier also----presumably that is also why the bushings are less flexible on the diesel

Measured mine carefully in the warmth of my kitchen, measurements taken from old one removed from daughters ZT 160

Good interesting thread, I must say.

Default Mondeo Mount

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
PICS OF THE MOUNT, the lines appear in the wrong place due to camera distortion, All dimensions are outer edge to outer edge except the 'centres' one.

NOTE: The rubbers in both the large and small ends are NOT touching the housing in the horizontal plane so they allow movement but prevent
excessive amounts. What effect that will have on transmitted vibration is to be discovered.

Default different mounts

Martynp, I am talking about the diesels of course but there are many posts on here which say that the 75 lower mounts look identical, the only difference is in the rubber stiffness. I am confused now.

Yup, they're interchangeable as far as size goes.

I am quite prepared to accept your statement!
I know that you will know!!
Now I am confused, as my measurements due not reflect those given by
Workaholic----?
For whom I have a high regard, reading his posts over the years-----must recheck mine!

Default Mondeo engine tie bar.

Ok so i cleared some snow away and fitted the Mondeo engine mount.
(My original mount has only done about 800 miles so is perfect).
The large end just needs some washers to enable it to be securely clamped by the bolt. I superglued a washer to each side to make it easy to reassemble it. The small end has to have both sides sawn off flush with the aluminium frame and then have a thin washer fitted on each side.
(to avoid the whole thing being locked solid when the bolt it done up).
Result, on my AUTOMATIC: Tickover in neutral or park exactly as before.
BUT when drive is selected with foot on brake there is more vibration than before. Once moving the ride is every bit as smooth as before.
I will try it for a while to see if anything alters and then try to work out why there is this increased vibration. It could be just the hardness of the rubber or the horizontal buffers not allowing quite enough fore and aft movement.

Brilliant work mate, so are you saying that it pretty much performs the same as your brand new mount? (apart from some vibration when stationary) I did a little experiment a while ago and hammered some wood into the voids on an old mgr mount to make it more solid, i then refitted it and started the engine which was cold, the car nearly shook itself to bits!!! Im guessing that this extra vibration you note may well be due to the horizontal buffers, although i believe these will help restrict any excess movement and extend the service life of the mount. Im going to get one and see how it performs on my manual. I dont mind a little more vibration if it gets rid of the exhaust rattling on the bulkhead which drives me crazy.

edit....just had a look on ebay and cant find any secondhand ones now just the new one as found above

I wonder if drilling some holes through the rubber, taking some of the material out, might reduce the rigidity - assuming being too rigidly mounted is the cause of the vibration?

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
