Default Suprised by the capacity.....

.....of the vee of a KV6 engine. I've just drained over 2 1/2 litres of coolant out of mine following today's failure of my 190's thermostat housing. I've got it all ready for the replacement kit ordered from our good friends at DMGRS, sadly it means I'm back on the pushbike for this week's nightshifts (not looking forward to the ride home in the cold and dark!).

P.S. Aren't 75/ZT temperature gauges great, sits halfway like normal then jumps to the red in a millisecond accompanied by the overheating warning! What's that all about, is this normal?

I think there is a drain hole at the front end of the vee , comes out below the waterpump ; certainly, there is one on mine . This means that you wouldn't get more than about an inch of water lying in there . Probably worth having a good clean-up when you do the thermostat replacement , in case the drain hole is blocked
And yes , all the temperature gauges behave like that

The drain is the first thing to get blocked by pinky sludge from a weeping stat....

Yes, it is normal I'm afraid.
It is reported that, they are programmed so the gauge reads half way from 75 to 115 degrees.
