Default Lagetha in London

A pleasant, trouble free tour of the M62, M6, M5, M42, M40, M25, and M4 to Belgrave Square in the capital for Lagetha...

I was collecting her new leather seats. 440+ miles, about 10 gallons used - 44mpg, not bad for a 23 year old.

I have fitted the back seats, I still need to do a bit of fiddling swapping airbag plugs etc. for these facelift model seats, and sorting the wiring for adjustment and heating etc.

I completed the fitting and adjustment of the front seats today. Thanks to the supplier for meeting me and helping to load them yesterday, and also to Arctic and Rick-Sta for their knowledge.

While washing my 75 on Saturday I noticed that one bracket had broken away from the exhaust back box. Kwik-Fit would have been the only viable option but I know they would have my pants down and say "Yes Sir, you need a complete new exhaust, that will be £800 please" so I tied it up with a bit of rope and took it to MG Rover Repair today, in the hope that Gavin might be able to weld it up. Alas, too far gone to bother with so a new back box is on order and will be fitted on Friday, should be a more reasonable £100-ish plus labour.

Interestingly, the original Rover back box lasted 10 years, this will be the third aftermarket part fitted in eight years. Should have gone stainless steel in the first place I suppose.

As the front bumper is still off I polished the headlights. I used a 3M kit which is, in my opinion, very good.
Once finished I rubbed in Maguires UV light protection.

Also did a bit of rubbing down of some surface rust patches and put on some rust cure. In a day or so, I will paint the patches.

Drove home from Berlin to Rotterdam with my newly acquired Rover 75 KV6.

It has a horrible clunking noise near the left front wheel that seems to go away (or at least gets too difficult to hear) when braking but is at its worst when steering left or decelerating on the engine. Not sure yet if it is any of the usual suspects or a severely worn axle joint. The car will get its inspection when it finally stops raining.

Other than the clunking, the car is in great condition with newly fitted belts and no visible rust anywhere.

It might be the tear drop linkage between the gearbox and the engine.Or might be a driveshaft outer bearing.

Had an unexpected day off from work today so I phoned Gavin to see if he could fit me in to install the exhaust backbox today and luckily he could so that's done now.

It's beginning to look like there's no work tomorrow either which is a bit of a worrying sign generally as I work in road transport which is one of the best barometers of the economy as a whole. We're all expecting a pretty massive downturn in business in 2023 as people spend more on mortgages and energy bills and have less to spend on unnecessary tat.

My ZT-T came home on the hook for the first time today. Initially on the road I thought that the issue was clutch hydraulics but it became obvious that it was the gearchange cables causing the problem.
I lost all of the gears and the gearshift has the sensation of a broken or disconnected cable. The cables are fine at the gearbox end and I can manually move the selectors on the box, so tomorrow I will get the car up on stands and pull the shifter out to see what's happening. It's a nuisance as if I need cables DMGRS won't be able to ship them until Monday which means I may not see them until the following week (I'm in Canada) and I was planning to put a couple of hundred km on the car next weekend.
