Diesel Power upgrade
I keep hearing about an ecu upgrade that has an unbelievable effect on power.
Apparently my lowly 116bhp CDT, and be transformed into a 160bhp fire breathing beast. Tempting, but this concerns me, Any thoughts ? "For reliability, go for the low power 115 CDI rather than the 131 CDTI. Yes, BMW engine, but in BMWs the more powerful versions go through turbos". Which I found here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...-good-buy.html |

The MG engine shares basic engine architecture with the BMW engine it is based on but the turbocharger and ancillaries are all different to the BMW fitment in their own cars |

The article is comparing apples with pears. Yes it is the same engine but a different turbo. The BMW has a Variable vane unit, yes it will push out more HP will be smoother as well in some respect, but the unit itself is not as reliable as our more conventional and smaller unit. Using the power and thrashing any motor will destroy it, look after it and drive sensibly.....

Don't see a downside to this....
it has transformed the power delivery and useability of the car, even at low revs & made overtaking a joy .....and the fuel consumption has improved!! |
