Awesome beast; remember them at an air show when I was growing up and they were accompanied by the second loudest plane sound even which was the Lightning doing a low pass over the crowd and then vertical climbing.
My internal organs still have a residual vibration |

Dreadful that our Government gives away £12 BILLION a year in Foreign Aid and yet we can't afford to keep this icon and one of the last ALL ENGLISH planes flying!
Things like this, really boil my ****! |

Those were the days, RAF needed new planes, plenty of aircraft manufacturers to choose from, up came 3 different designs from 3 major names and Vulcan, Victor and Valiant were born with government buying all three.

Doing the Vulcan Tour this year with my 16 year old lad.
Went to Bruntingthorpe this weekend to see, feel and hear a Lightning and a Victor perform full power (but flightless) run-ups. Re. the Vulcan, the problem lies with the engines. Persuade some Union Jack waving exile millionaire that they already have enough money and investing in this project is A GOOD THING and the aeroplane will have a better chance of continuing to fly. |

Whenever I see a Vulcan I think of XM645 that I watched burst into flames and crash in 1975 over Malta (http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles...ecalled.490286) My father was station armourer at RAF Luqa and was involved in dissecting the ejection seats as part of the investigations that followed. A rather sad site to see! I was 8 at the time and I still remember it clearly!

I saw the Vulcan a couple of years ago at the Dawlish Air Show flanked by the Red Arrows. Barely a dry eye in the house.

I was on site at Bruntingthorpe when the Vulcan was flown in On retirement from the RAF what a sight and sound. Why can't it be returned to Bruntingthorpe when it retires so it could still be taxied as before?
