Default Electric seats manually drive fwd/back ...

Hi, thought I'd share how I got round driving seat forwards & backwards when using seat switch just kept blowing fuses... (i.e. - short somewhere...). Would also be helpful when trying to remove powered seat from car with no power supply (e.g. from a scrapped vehicle...). This started last year when I had help shifting the seat from Pauld & Dattrike at a nano (Paul kindly let me have the cable I now use...).

OK... general plan - basically I disconnected the 2 pin connector for motor that goes across the front of the seat, then connected the male 2 pin plug to 12V to drive the seat forwards & backwards. I had to do this about 3-4 times before I found the culprit (short on the main orange/yellow wire from fuse 53 to driver's seat...). At that stage I just had a 2 wire cable (4mm^2) and 2 crocodile clips (to clip straight on to battery). This cable was clamped into a 2 way chocolate block. Out of the chocolate block I had 2 wires which sockets on the end which were a nice fit over the pins in the motor plug... I fitted one wire to a pin and touched the other wire to the other pin to check which way the seat went... then drove seat backwards or forwards to get access to the front or rear bolts (T50 bit was good enough to undo bolts).

At a recent nano I had need to use it again for someone who also had a shorting wire... so I had to cobble it together again... so I thought for something to do I'd neaten it up.

Parts I needed:
(On)Off(On) Momentary Large rocker switch (DPDT).
2 relays (I think are YWB10012??, yellow box anyway...) - need this to protect the switch from DC arcing??? not sure I've got it right here... maybe won't use them can't do this as it causes polarity problems in wiring!
Fuse in-line - 20A???
Old 2 pin socket from seat side of electric seat fwd/back motor.

Need to finish this later! got work to do - I'll edit it this evening... picture of switch & wiring diagram etc...

Default Initial wiring diagram...

Basic wiring diagram ... Do I need to protect the switch from arcing? Not sure how I'd do this?
EDIT: didn't bother... didn't seem to need it!

Looking to wire driver and passenger seat in with just 2 wires right now just so I can get the seats in and moving. Is it the Orange/red that needs +12v and does it come from fuse 53? (I've never plugged into the fuse box before - can I put a spade connector on from the rear?) then I guess the other cable is the black and I can watch that on a suitable earthing point.

I just need power to seats so they can be adjusted so that I can get the cloth ones out for someone to take next week.

Where has anyone else picked up the +12v from perhaps?

It's only temp - will wire up properly with heated seats when back from Europe.

Thanks!

Doing a bit of digging I have found the following:

In the 8 pin BLACK block connector under the driver's seat we have:

Pin 1: Thick Yellow (Heated Seat wire) "switch"
Pin 2: Thick Orange/White (Heated Seat wire) "ignition switched feed"
Pin 3: Thick Black (ground) "heated seat"?
Pin 4: Thick Orange/Yellow (Motors) "Fuse 21 (30 Amp)"

Pin 5: Thin Brown/Pink: (??) "Fuse 3 (5 Amp)"
Pin 6: Thin Red/White: (??) "??"
Pin 7: Thin Black/Slate: (ground) "??"
Pin 8: Thick Orange/Green: (Motors) "Fuse 19 (30 Amp)"

The bits in red are what other people say about these wires, I'm guessing the Fuse 3, 19, 21 feed +ve to seat motors ...

If I am just trying to get power to the motors do I need to connect switched +12V to:

Pin 4: Thick Orange/Yellow
Pin 8: Thick Orange/Green

and Ground:

Pin 3: Thick Black

Am I close???

Cheers

The passenger plug has:

Pin 1: Thick Yellow (Heated Seat wire) "switch"
Pin 2: Thick Orange/White (Heated Seat wire) "ignition switched feed"
Pin 3: Thick Black (ground) "heated seat"?
Pin 4: empty

Pin 5: empty
Pin 6: empty
Pin 7: empty
Pin 8: Thick Orange/Yellow: (Motors) "Fuse 19 (30 Amp)"?

I guess in this case I put a switched +12v to:

Pin 8: Thick Orange/Yellow

and Ground:

Pin 3: Thick Black

??

Grrr!

I started with the passenger seat. Got a fused +12V feed from the fuse-box and a Ground and connected to (thick) Orange/Yellow and Black (as above) - and not a sausage. There is +12V coming to the plug and the fuse hasn't blown, but nothing - no clicking of relays or whirring of motors nada. Have I got the wiring above wrong? could I have duff motors?

Any ideas??

Hi... sorry for the tardy response... I'm in Greece at the moment... will re-read your posts then get back to you... basically to move seats fore/aft find the motor that goes across front of seat... unplug the plug that's cable tied to motor body (do you have memory seat? In which case the plug you want is the larger of the two...has 2 pins...). All you need to do is connect these pins to car battery (on motor...NOT on car side!) and check which way seat moves if wrong way swap wires... HTH. The beauty of this is it bypasses everything in car...

Thanks - all sorted now. But I have noted the plug you mean for future reference.
