Of wipers and Head Units ...
Strange problem driving back from work in the pouring rain ... the wipers were stopping, mid way through wipe, park, don't park, single sweep, stop, etc you get the picture - wasn't appreciated in the pouring rain. At one point just stopped and wouldn't move then restarted ... then just worked fine, been out to the car again and works fine on all settings ... reseated the wiper plug just in case ... seems to be fine.
Why mention the HU you might ask? well whilst in the car testing, i realised that as soon as the wiper motor energises the "backlight" of the HU was flickering on, then off when the motor goes off (and the display dims too). I have the backlight programmed to be Amber, but when they come on in this manner they flick through red then Amber ... ??? Wiper still works and radio appears to work - I can't imagine the two are not related though? I have been playing with wires in the car of course - I fitted the electric seats yesterday, but no problem noticed then or this morning ... the HU has been fitted for ages now and stores radio stations in memory etc fine ... so I don't think its the red/yellow wires at the HU need swapping ... Anyone seen this before?

My former ZT once set the spray on full blast and my previous ZTT occasionally did strange things with the front wipers but more so the back. I always found it was a slightly low battery problem. Fully charged it never did this problem or after a longish run.
The Evoque's ECO function is weirder still... does what it wants sometimes. Told LR dealer and he said they all do weird things! |

I had something similar a few weeks ago, never happened before or since. Having been driving in the rain I was about to walk away from the car and noticed the wipers were still on and the car hadn't locked. The wipers would switch off with the ignition on or in aux but as soon as I turned it off the wipers came back and so did the head unit. I ended up pulling the wiper fuse and had to lock the car with the key. Eight hours later I put the fuse back and everything has been fine since. I still don't know why and it's been on a T4 since with no hint of this.

Thanks chaps - I guess I will disconnect battery for a few minutes and reconnect and take it from there (from the mad wiper issue - finger's crossed). Re the HU backlight coming on - that couldn't be an ECU/BCU issue - more likely a flakey connection/ earth - I guess I will pull the HU out and make sure all connections are tight(?!)

Is it an original head unit or an aftermarket one?

Navall 3.
I've reset by removing battery and reconnecting. Wiper seems to work on all setting on the drive. But the HU backlight flashing with each wiper operation persists?!? Tomorrow I'll take a look at the HU wiring to see if anything is snagging or whatnot

Unplug the head unit, I guess it will stop causing problems.
Seems like you have a wiring problem with your head unit wiring. Get it unplugged and checked. |

Live and switched live being reversed sounds like something I have read before.

I'm going to take a look tomorrow - but it has been working fine for over a month now ... perhaps a loose connection though - I'll check. (Loose connection still doesn't explain what's happening though ...)
